Geneviève Dompierre-Smith is a Canadian soprano known for the richness of her tone and her captivating stage presence. A graduate of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, she has had the privilege of working with Aline Kutan, Olivier Godin, and Suzanne Lantagne.
Her artistic journey has been marked by numerous prestigious distinctions, including the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation Grant (awarded twice), the Domaine Forget Scholarship, the Aida Scholarship, the Bouchard Foundation Career Development Grant, and prizes from the Classival Competition and the Canadian Music Competition. She is also a recipient of a grant from the Art Song Foundation of Canada.
Geneviève has distinguished herself in a wide range of roles, including Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly, Opéra de Québec), Lucie (The Telephone, Brigade Lyrique), Ottavia (L’incoronazione di Poppea, Université Laval), Alice (La Grand’tante by Massenet, Festival d’Opéra de Québec), Louise (La Vie parisienne, Opéra de Québec), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), and the First Lady (The Magic Flute, CMM production).
She has received guidance from renowned figures in the opera world through masterclasses and artistic collaborations, including Kiri Te Kanawa, Julian Prégardien, Christine Brewer, Camilla Nylund, Wolfgang Holzmair, Russell Braun, Benjamin Butterfield, Ariane Girard, and Jean-François Lapointe.
In parallel with her performing career, Geneviève is actively involved in education. She works with high school students and offers private voice lessons to both teenagers and adults, combining technical rigour with a compassionate teaching approach.
She has also taken part in theatrical and film projects, performing in The Passion of Augustine by Léa Pool and The Triumph of Money by Denys Arcand. She has performed in recital settings, where her expressiveness and musical sensitivity are particularly appreciated.
